1. THE FRENCH DID NOT INVENT THE FRENCH CUFFS
This
may come across as a shock to many but french cuffs were not invented by the
French. Rather they were invented by the British.
The
French cuff has become one of the most prominent fashion trends today, but it
didn’t just happen overnight.
There
was a valid reason behind it. The shirts would come with buttons along the
sleeves that helped men fasten their cuffs at the length of their choice.
Hence, this further made its way to Europe and became well-known as French
cuffs.
2. POCKET SQUARES AND THE PRACTICE
Pocket
squares were never supposed to be an accessory. Initially, they were used for
drying hands and blowing one's nose.
It
was only after the invention of tissues and ultimately handkerchiefs that
disrupted this practice. It was decided that the handkerchief and tissues
deserved a more prominent place there.
And that’s how later pocket squares were made in finer cuts, and used as a fashion accessory than being used for cleaning purposes.
3. A CHEMIST INVENTED THE MACKINTOSH COAT
The creator, from the Scottish Chemist; Charles Macintosh. First made in London, the Mackintosh coat is often referred to as an outdoor waterproof rain jacket. first sold in 1824, made of rubberized fabric.
Macintosh designed a coat with two fabrics with an outer layer made of liquid rubber and this is how eventually the waterproof jacket came into existence.
However, there is a conspiracy and a claim that the material was invented by the surgeon James Syme before Macintosh but then copied and patented by Charles Macintosh.
Nowadays, Streetwear Jackets Men, and Leather Jackets are trending however earlier Mackintosh coats wore by men.
4. MEN AND THE HISTORY OF HIGH HEELS
Heels were first invented in Persia in the 10th century, and they were designed for men in the first place. Initially, high heels were regarded as the symbol of status and wealth. Hence it was the Nobel of the 16th century who wore them way before they became a fashion in the world of women's footwear. It was By the 19th century, in Europe, heels became unassailable feminine & men start wearing shoes along with mens tie dye socks.
5. BROGUES WERE MADE FOR SOME OTHER PURPOSE
The very loved hole pattern on brogues was originally used to trudge through wet surfaces, as the holes in the shoes would let the water out. Were designed in a Practical, not decorative, feature manner to let water out when walking on boggy ground.
They were mostly used as outdoor shoes and were opposed to wearing during work hours. However, the scenario is quite the opposite in today's time. As now sneakers, sports shoes are worn by men with black graphic tshirt or any other casual wear for instance.
